For Kindness Day SG this year, we dedicated the entire month of May to celebrating the spirit of kindness! Together with our Ground-Up Movements, several exciting activities were organized to show appreciation to those around us.
We kicked off our celebrations with a dinner party for migrant workers at Mandai WestLite Dormitory. The event was hosted by Sama Sama, who aims to redefine the image of migrant workers. It was an evening of music and fun! Volunteers also folded craft daisies with our migrant friends, and thanked them for helping to make our homes a better place.
We also joined The Volunteer Switchboard in Project Home Sweet Home, visiting homes in Jalan Kukoh. We gave out daily essentials and food items to the residents living in one-room flats. Volunteers from Team Singapore taught the residents to fold craft daisies, and in turn they showed their appreciation by writing heartfelt messages on their handmade flowers. Along with U-Cares, we had a get-together session with the elderly residents at Jalan Tenteram. Our volunteers gave out food packs, provided haircut services, balloons and also performed for the elderly. Even Singa made a guest appearance!
In celebration of kindness, we also surprised the night shift workers at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital with little gifts and thank you cards to appreciate their hard work in taking care of our loved ones way past our bedtimes. This was part of the Gratitude Marathon organized by the Strangers of the Night.
Many migrant workers toil tirelessly through long hours, rain or shine just to build better homes for us. To show our appreciation to them, volunteers joined #ItsRainingRaincoats in distributing raincoats to migrant workers at Little India.
We also brought cheers and smiles to the visitors at Botanic Gardens, as The Morning Greeters and volunteers greeted and handed out daisies to everyone!
Throughout all the events and activities, we collected handmade daisies with well-wishes from our recipients of kindness to create a beautiful art display which was unveiled on Kindness Day SG at CHIJMES. It was certainly a month full of happiness and celebrations!
