Singapore Kindness Movement celebrated Kindness Day SG this year by launching a multimedia exhibition titled “ImagiNation” at *SCAPE Playspace. Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong launched the exhibition during a private ceremony on 29 May 2015, alongside with Minister Lawrence Wong. ESM Goh also highlighted the importance of kindness being a noble vision that everyone should play their part in pursuing, for the greater good of Singapore. Dr William Wan, General Secretary of SKM, agreed by highlighting that small acts of graciousness every day were what Singaporeans could do to become a Nation of Kindness. 10 ground up movement groups were also inducted that evening into the Kindred Spirit Circle, celebrating their hard work in championing kindness in their own capacity.
The exhibition featured acts of graciousness and kindness in various capacities. These acts were displayed with the intention to ask the audiences “What if ImagiNation could be a reality?”. The exhibition compromised five zones, featuring local and international acts that highlighted selfless acts made by ordinary people. The last zone featured a video SW/TCH, where visitors could toggle between alternate realities to see how their actions have a ripple effect. Directed by Kirsten Tan, recent winner of Torino Film Awards, the video challenges the viewer to reflect on the consequences that their empathy or apathy might result in.
Visitors who attended the exhibition on 30th and 31st May enjoyed it, with most being thankful to have viewed the exhibition. They mentioned how the exhibition prompted them to be more aware of the impact their actions have on others. We were comforted seeing many leave the exhibition being inspired to spread kindness within the community. We hope that many will continue to be inspired by the video as well, which can be viewed here: Kindnessday.sg.
