Spring into Cleaning

The Lunar New Year season is here again, but before we can enjoy our feastings and ang baos, we need to do some serious spring cleaning first. Here are some tips as you clear out and clean up the house!

1. Turn ‘junk’ into cash

Clearing out unwanted or unused items? You can sell electrical appliances (that still work) and unused decorative items to secondhand outlet stores. So you give your old items a new lease of life while you get to make some money out of it too!

2. Add spice to your wardrobe

As you clear out your closets, you may notice you need to replace the mothballs. But instead of using chemical smells, try using natural moth-repellents instead. Use lavender or a mix of herbs and spices like rosemary, cinnamon, and cloves to keep moths away.

3. Bright light to your home

Giving your walls a new coat of paint? Opt for pale colours and keep your windows clean – these simple actions can help make your rooms appear brighter and reduce the need for artificial light.

4. Rags to riches story

Need rags to clean floors and other surfaces? Turn old clothes, towels or bed sheets that are too worn to be donated, into pieces of washable cloths that become helpful tools for your spring cleaning.

5. A shoe-in

As you clear out your shoe cabinet, look at your foot-ware and get maximum mileage from them. Invest in some shoe trees to help retain their shape, and take time to clean them especially for your leather shoes. And have them re-soled and re-heeled when they start to wear down.
