Kind-hearted Singaporeans
On Thursday evening (one of the days when I was on leave), my husband rang me while he was in MRT. He asked me to bring an umbrella as it was raining heavily that evening. I quickly changed and grabbed two umbrellas to escort my husband from MRT station. While I was waiting outside MRT station, I saw people coming out of MRT station and instead of going to their destination, stood there with their umbrellas. I couldn’t comprehend what these people are waiting for. It was torrential rains, one of the worst types, I saw in Singapore. Even for one person under umbrella, it was difficult to remain dry. I realized suddenly that these people are waiting for someone who might have forgotten their umbrellas just like my husband and need help to reach home. I was amazed when I saw not only youngsters but elderly and even pregnant women stood there with their umbrellas to escort needy people. Each person who came out of MRT without umbrella was escorted by the people standing outside. I could tell that eyes of people without umbrella were filled with gratitude while the face of helpers was shining with pride and joy of helping others.
I came there to fetch my husband while these people were doing that not for their loved ones but for strangers. I was so touched by the way Singaporeans heartedly help each other and show kindness towards needy.
